A Lifelong Love Affair with Business
Some people stumble into business. I fell in love with it.
It started at age ten with a stack of TV Guides and a spark of curiosity. I wasn’t just selling magazines — I was learning the art of connecting people to something I believed in. I loved television, the stories, the characters, the worlds it opened. That passion gave me a natural knack for sales — but only when I cared deeply about the product. (My college experiments with Cutco Cutlery and Amway were valuable lessons in discovering where passion meets purpose!)
The First Mentor I Never Met
By high school, I had joined the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a formative step for my entrepreneurial mind. It was there I first learned about J. Bruce Llewellyn, one of the most accomplished Black business leaders in the country. Though I never met him, he became the first mentor I would never meet — a reminder that inspiration can guide us from a distance.
